Joel Calafell, M.D. FACS, FASCRS, is a general surgeon at Baptist Health Medical Group. Dr. Calafell specializes in Colon and Rectal Surgery and has extensive training in robotic surgery. He was born and raised in Miami and is fluent in English and Spanish. Attended Ross University from 2010-2014.

General Surgery Residency completed at University of Connecticut from 2014 to 2020.

Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship completed at Lehigh Valley Hospital from 2020 to 2021. During his General Surgery residency, Dr. Calafell was elected administrative chief resident and awarded the Golden Humanism Award (Best Resident Teacher). He was also elected president of the Student Government Association in medical school. His research has been published in the Annals of Emergency Surgery and the European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery. He also authored a chapter in the book “Seminars in CRS: Entering Practice in Colorectal Surgery.”
